John E. Burk, Ph.D. |
John Burk is the Senior Executive Officer for the Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. He is the Agency’s designated Legislative Liaison. Additionally, he supervises Project Challenge, State Contracting, and Internal Auditing and is the Agency lead for the Military Installation Fund and Military Affairs Commission. Previously, he served as an Associate Director and Assistant Professor at Arizona State University where he administered community development programs and taught courses in Nonprofit Leadership and Management and Communication Studies. Mr. Burk continues his 27 years of service as a traditional member of the Arizona Army National Guard and is currently Commander of the 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade comprised of 2200 Soldiers. He also served as Chief of Staff of the Southwest Border Security mission (Operation Copper Cactus). John earned a doctorate and master’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree from Carroll College in addition to a master’s degree from the U.S. Army War College.
