PHOENIX - Governor Janet
Napolitano and Major General David P. Rataczak, The Adjutant General,
today announced that the following Arizona National Guard units
have been alerted for possible mobilization in support of Operations
Enduring Freedom (OEF), Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Noble Eagle (ONE):
- Phoenix-based 160th
Finance Detachment
- Phoenix-based 3666th
Maintenance Company
- Phoenix-based 258th
Engineer Company with a detachment in Safford
- Phoenix-based 257th
Engineer Team
- Tucson-based
852 (RAOC) Rear Area Operation Center
At this time,
no information is available regarding the specific operations to
which these units will be assigned.
The total length
of mobilization is dependent on the requirements of the combatant
commander and the need for pre-deployment training and post-deployment
requirements. Length of tour for units mobilized for Operation Noble
Eagle is currently 12 months.
The alert notification
of these units is part of the ongoing nation-wide mobilization of
Army and Air National Guard units ordered by President Bush in the
global war on terror.
While an alert order
does not constitute an order to mobilize, it does, however, constitute
prudent planning on the part of the command to ensure soldiers are
prepared for activation once an actual mobilization order is issued
by the Department of the Army.

EDITORS
PLEASE NOTE:
- For accuracy, the
affected units are identified by their full and proper names.
- Operation NOBLE EAGLE
is the name of the ongoing war on terror being conducted inside
of the US.
- Operation ENDURING
FREEDOM is the name of the ongoing war on terror being conducted
outside of the US.
- Operation IRAQI FREEDOM
is the name assigned to ongoing operations in Iraq and Kuwait.
- The term "weekend
warrior" is considered archaic and inappropriate when describing
the soldiers and airmen of the National Guard. Proper terminology
(per the Associated Press Stylebook) includes: "National
Guard," "Air National Guard," "Army National
Guard," "Arizona National Guard," the "Guard,"
"National Guard troops," "National Guardsmen,"
or when alone, "guardsman." Also accurate are "soldier,"
"airman," and "troops."
